What is endodontic surgery?
The most common endodontic surgical procedure is an apicoectomy or root-end resection. It is used to relieve inflammation or infection in the bony area around the end of your tooth that may continue after endodontic treatment.
During this surgery, the endodontist will open the gum tissue and remove the infected tissue and will remove the very end of the root. A small filling may be placed to seal the root canal. We use local anesthetics to maintain comfort during the procedure and most patients are able to return to their normal activities in a day or two.
